The band came to prominence in 2010 with the release of their first debut album, Innerspeaker. Their name refers to the impala, a medium sized antelope. They like to see themselves as a steady flowing psychedelic groove rock band that emphasizes dream-like melody.

Tame Impala's sophmore album came out in the states October 9th, 2012. With a new style of psyechedellic music - more pop than rock, Lonerism has already gotten rave reviews including a perfect score from Guardian and a 9/10 from Pitchfork.

The definition of psychedelic rock. The genre is quite vague as I've heard all kinds of music called "psychedelic rock" and often it doesn't seem very psychedelic and other times not really rockish, but Innerspeaker does both things to the absolute max.

As more time has passed, more reviews for Lonerism have come in and while Metacritic has unfortunately not posted Tame Impala or Lonerism on their website, RateYourMusic is often a fairly good indicator. Thus far, Lonerism has achieved a 3.70/5 rating - placing it as the 9th best Album of the year.

When Tame Impala's first album came out, it was a surprise that it got a 8.5 - a review that got the attention of many people to checkout the new band. So one of the reviews to look out for was Pitchfork and with the new style of music in Lonerism, surprisingly, has received an outstand 9.0 from Pitchfork and rated "Best New Music".
